Some famous celebrities having Marfan syndrome

Marfan syndrome is a hereditary ailment that was first described in year 1896 by Dr. Antoine Bernard-Jean Marfan, who was a famous French pediatrician of his time. It was year 1991 when Francesco Ramirez first identified the gene connected with this disorder. Marfan syndrome is a rare but fatal genetic ailment in the connective tissues of our body. It is not necessary that the disease show its symptoms in every case. However, there are some indications like longer limbs, tapered fingers, or problem with eyes or heart, which can directly be referred to this disease.

This disease can either be mild or severe... however, the severity of the problem totally depends on the age of patient and the time when this malady was diagnosed. Malfunctioning heart and aortic valves are some of the most serious complications which are associated with this malady. This disease is also capable of affecting our skeleton and the hard plate, dural sac surrounding the spinal cord, and your lungs, badly. The problem starts with the improper functioning of tissues. You should get it treated without wasting any time. It can prove to be very deadly, if not taken proper care. The results can be drastic.


Here, I am about to discuss some of the prominent personalities which are affected by this disease.

Abraham Lincoln (February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865)


Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He fought for the presidency as a candidate from the Republican Party and was elected as a president in 1860. He was an avid reader without having any formal education. He was a free spoken guy and was the one who stood against slavery. He deceased due to this disease in year 1865. He was 56 at the time of his death.

Mary Stuart (December 8, 1542 – February 8, 1587)


As a female heir to the French throne, Mary ruled Scotland as queen regnant from 14th December 1542 to 24th July 1567 and as queen consort of France from 10th July 1559 to 5th December 1560. She wedded Francis-II in year 1558.  Mary suffered from this genetic disease and died due to the execution on the charges of treason in the year 1587.

Niccolò Paganini (October 27, 1782 – May 27, 1840)


Niccolò Paganini was born in Genoa, Italy. He was a distinguished guitarist, violist, violinist, and composer of his time. He started playing a musical instrument called mandolin, at the age of five. After some time, he found his interests shifting towards violin. Even though there aren’t any reliable medical proves, but Marfan syndrome is considered the reason behind his death. He died at the age of 58.

Vincent Andrew Schiavelli (November 11, 1948 – December 26, 2005)


He was born in Brooklyn, New York. This Hollywood character actor was famous for his work on television, screen, and stage. He got this disease by heritage. In his live, he worked voluntarily as honorary co-chair for the National Marfan Foundation. There in this foundation, he helped many people suffering from the same disease. He died at the age of 57 due to lung cancer.
